  • Aerodynamic and efficient: The flat design makes the Skycamp the ideal companion even on long journeys
Aiways U5 SUV

Electrifying adventures and boundless freedom are offered by the combination of the Aiways U5 SUV and the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 from Campwerk. The all-electric microcamper combination not only enables near-natural independence, which is becoming increasingly popular under the term “vanlife”, but also sustainable camping.

Freedom, relaxation and adventure: Camping has many charms. And we’re not talking about the boring RV or the all-season caravan parked on a permanent pitch. Today, if you follow the hashtag #Vanlife on platforms like Instagram or Pinterest, you’ll find millions of stories, tours and do-it-yourself instructions on how to build your own microcamper. In addition to independence, it’s the increased awareness of sustainability that is fueling the popularity of camping even further. The all-electric Aiways U5 SUV (electricity consumption combined 17.0-16.6; CO2 emissions combined 0g/km; range combined (WLTP) 400-410km) in combination with Campwerk’s iKamper Skycamp 3.0 is therefore the ideal combination for nature-oriented and emission-free time-outs from everyday life.

Growth market: Registrations of campers more than tripled

The number of new registrations of motorhomes and campervans more than doubled in Europe from 2013 to 2020. In some countries, the figures have even almost quadrupled, and there is no end in sight to the trend. This is because opinion polls clearly show that “overnight stays in different places,” “vacations without planning” and the “opportunity to explore other countries in a short time” are more popular than ever before. “The camping industry is an absolute growth market and the past two years have shown that staying at home on your own four wheels is the perfect vacation option for many. With the combination of our Aiways U5 SUV and the iKamper Skypcamp roof tent, we want to show what sustainable microcamping can look like,” explains Aiways CEO Dr. Alexander Klose.

iKamper Skycamp 3.0 from Campwerk: The greatest possible mobility with the lowest possible time and cost expenditure

Aiways U5 SUV

“A motorhome or caravan costs an enormous amount of money. Camping on a campground is usually inconvenient and without any comfort. And hotels and club facilities just don’t give you the freedom to stay where you want,” says Michael Krämer, managing director of Campwerk, explaining the intention behind the brand, which has been an integral part of the camping world since 2010. With the latest generation of roof tents, their iKamper Skycamp 3.0, they have not only provided even more space – the large version has room for up to four people – but have also incorporated many other improvements in detail and comfort without affecting the good aerodynamics thanks to the extremely low-profile fiberglass hard-shell cover.

Streamlined long-distance runner: Aerodynamic roof tent turns Aiways U5 SUV into an efficient microcamper

With its static roof load of 400kg, the Aiways U5 SUV is the perfect partner for the iKamper Skycamp. Due to the innovative attachment to the roof’s crossbars, the roof tent is not subject to any speed limitation and scores with good efficiency thanks to its streamlined shape. The internal tests and simulations during proving were followed by real-life endurance tests that allowed the all-electric camping combination to be on the road for 1000 kilometers a day. With an additional consumption of about 20% depending on the selected travel speed on these long-distance tests, it remains possible to cover long distances between charging stops. Thanks to its fast-charging capability from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 27 minutes, the Aiways U5 SUV keeps travel time pleasantly short, even with the roof tent mounted.

Room for spontaneity: Generous space and trailer coupling ensure unlimited flexibility

With a load volume of up to 1,555l with the rear seat folded down and the completely flat floor, the Aiways U5 SUV offers ideal conditions for use as a microcamper. Whether as a storage space for outdoor equipment, or even as an additional sleeping space: the possibilities are almost limitless and offer room for every spontaneity. “Our Aiways U5 SUV comes with everything it takes for a spontaneous camping trip: practical variability in the interior and a generous amount of space for additional storage. Thanks to our retrofit trailer hitch, which is now available in many European countries, we’re increasing flexibility even further, and not just in everyday camping,” says Dr. Alexander Klose, enthusiastic about the wide range of uses for the Aiways U5 SUV. Thanks to a towing capacity of up to 1,500kg with the retrofittable trailer hitch, the Aiways U5 SUV can also hook up larger trailers for even more freedom on vacation. And if you want to explore your destination on two wheels, the high 100kg drawbar load allows you to transport up to three e-bikes.

Independence close to nature: Aiways U5 SUV enables sustainable camping

The all-electric Aiways U5 SUV combines its well-known talents of spaciousness, range and fast-charging capability with the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 to create a sustainable microcamper that opens up a whole new dimension of nature-based, zero-emission camping and enables electrifying adventures.

Sono Motors (subsidiary to “Sono Group N.V.”, NASDAQ: SEV), the company that is pioneering solar-powered mobility, today held its first “Celebrate the Sun” Community event with more than 1,500 guests. During the event, the Munich-based OEM celebrated the debut of the world’s first affordable solar electric vehicle (SEV), the Sion, in its production design, and the unveiling of its novel ‘Solar Bus Kit’, a scalable B2B retrofit solution that reduces fuel consumption and inner-city greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to climate protection.

“We are tremendously excited for Sono Motors’ journey towards providing clean, affordable, and accessible solar transportation for the masses. The premieres of the Sion in its production design and the ‘Solar Bus Kit’ represent a giant leap forward in realizing our vision for a sustainable world, furthering our mission to reduce carbon emissions,” said Laurin Hahn, co-founder and CEO of Sono Motors. “Production of our series-validation fleet and presenting the Sion in its production design is a further step towards delivering on our promise of an affordable solar-electric passenger vehicle. In addition, business diversification through the establishment of our B2B solar business as a strategic pillar helps us to achieve our key targets. We are scaling up our Sono Solar business with our new ‘Solar Bus Kit’ and have successfully increased our B2B customer base.”

The Sion: Key Milestones Towards Series Production Achieved

The Sion, the World’s First Solar Electric Vehicle (SEV) For the Masses

Starting as an idea between friends in a Munich garage, Sono Motors has grown to become a pioneer in solar-powered transportation via its development of the Sion, an affordable and reliable SEV for the masses. The Sion’s unique market position, coupled with Sono Motors’ proprietary Sono Solar Technology positions the Company perfectly to seize upon a growing shift toward a more sustainable future and enables individual contribution to climate-friendly mobility through the Company’s blend of disruptive technology and affordability.

In its final production design, the Sion received major enhancements compared to earlier concepts: the exterior and interior now feature fewer lines and clearer surfaces. The Sion’s revamped exterior design includes new headlights and rear lights, a new bottom sideline design, new door handles, a streamlined rear with new camera and 3D lines, and a new charging lid. Inside, the Sion features a more spacious, cleaner interior with more storage, newly designed front seats and rear bench, and a new steering wheel. The Sion will also offer new color and trim for interior surfaces.

The outer shell of the family-friendly Sion will consist of 456 seamlessly integrated solar half-cells and will enable self-sufficiency on short journeys. The energy generated by the solar cells is expected to extend the estimated 305 km range of the Sion’s 54 kWh LFP battery by an average of 112 km (up to 245 km) per week. Commuters in German metropolitan areas will have to charge their Sion up to four times less than conventional electric cars of the same vehicle class with a similar battery size. The battery will allow for a maximum charging capacity of up to 75 kW (DC) and 11 kW (AC). Bidirectional charging technology complements the car’s solar integration and is designed to turn the Sion into a sustainable power plant on wheels that is expected to be able to power electronic devices, the home or other electric cars with an output of up to 11 kW.

Sono Motors is currently building its fleet of series-validation vehicles in Munich close to the company’s HQ, ushering in the Sion’s testing program, which has already commenced. In the next months, this vehicle generation will undergo uncompromising practical tests under extreme conditions in both Europe and the U.S. This includes series validation, homologation, crash tests, testing in different climates, optimizing solar technology and safeguarding, as well as refining driving dynamics on test tracks and on public roads.

As of 1 July 2022, Sono Motors has over 19,000 active private reservations for the Sion, with an average down-payment of €2,225 and equivalent net sales volume of about €415 million, assuming that all reservations result in sales. At an estimated net sales price point of just 25,126 euro, the Sion is expected to have one of the lowest TCOs (total cost of ownership) in the medium-size segment since the proprietary solar technology considerably reduces the necessity to charge the vehicle.

The Company has an asset-light approach, with start of production planned for the second half of 2023 via contract manufacturing in Finland, foregoing the need for building its own production facilities. Sono Motors’ partner Valmet Automotive has extensive expertise in manufacturing for high-tech OEMs. After a ramp-up period the partners aim to produce approximately 257,000 Sion vehicles within seven years.

Solar Bus Kit: B2B retrofit solution to enable sustainable mobility for commercial transport

The Solar Bus

The Solar Bus Kit is a versatile and straightforward solution, optimized for the most common 12-meter public transport bus types on the European market, including Mercedes-Benz Citaro and MAN Lion City. Sono Motors will offer a complete and efficient retrofit solution for bus fleet operators who have a compelling need to reduce diesel consumption and CO2 emissions to meet their sustainability goals.

The Solar Bus Kit allows subsystems like the HVAC to be partially powered by renewable energy thereby saving fuel, CO2, and costs. The Kit can save up to 1,500 liters of diesel and up to 4 tonnes of CO2 per bus per year from the ~1.4 kW peak installation with a total size of about 8 square-meters of solar panels. Bus fleet operators stand to see a potential payback time of approximately 3-4 years, depending on days in operation and fuel prices. Sono Motors will announce more details during IAA Transportation in September.

“Our solar technology is already contributing to climate protection and reducing CO2 emissions for numerous partners. In Munich, for example, we are collaborating with the city’s public transport company and are thereby supporting the city’s clean air targets. Such partnership projects demonstrate the potential of our technology for the transport sector,” said Jona Christians, co-founder and CEO of Sono Motors. “We’re proud to celebrate the unveiling of our novel solar product, the ‘Solar Bus Kit’, which will truly push our mission of making every vehicle a solar vehicle to the next level. The all-new Solar Bus Kit allows us to strengthen our solar business by maximizing the scalability of our technology to a huge market: the public and private bus fleet sector. It also represents a milestone on our path toward a world without fossil fuels.”

Sono Motors is well on track with its plan to diversify its business and has currently delivered customized solar solutions to several B2B customers. As of today, the Munich-based solar-mobility specialist is partnering with 19 companies worldwide – including MAN Truck & Bus and CHEREAU – to implement its Sono Solar Technology on a variety of vehicle architectures such as buses, trailers, trucks, and electric transporters. Depending on the use case, size and type of the solar integration, Sono Motors’ lightweight and adaptable solution allows customers in the transportation industry to cut costs and emissions throughout their fleets.

Universal EV Chargers Installs First Advanced Level Two EV Chargers

0
Advanced Level Two EV Chargers

PLANO, TX (July 19, 2022) –Today, Plano-based Universal EV Chargers, a division of Universal Green Group, announced that it has successfully installed the first of thousands of advanced Level Two Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargers in the United States in Plano, Texas. These Level Two EV Chargers will fill market needs that have been largely unmet by existing providers, including fast installations, unit up time and simple, universal, fast charging even on level two chargers.

Travelers' Map is loading...
If you see this after your page is loaded completely, leafletJS files are missing.

Level Two chargers are often found at hotels, businesses and retail locations where EV drivers can charge their batteries while they linger in the facilities where the chargers are located.  These Level Two Chargers may take several hours to complete a full charge compared to the more expensive DC Fast Chargers that can charge an EV in 30 to 40 minutes.

Universal Green Group set out to be a major contributor to the green energy sector in 2009. Following the company’s rapid growth in sustainable solar energy products, it leveraged its green expertise to launch the Universal EV Chargers division in 2019 to meet the growing EV adoption rate and the national need for a superior EV charging network.

Green energy visionary and company founder and CEO Hemal Doshi envisions a U.S.-based EV charging network where EV drivers can find a compatible, working charger where and when it is needed, and he’d like those charges to be provided by Universal EV Chargers.

“As an EV driver myself, I experienced first-hand the frustrating challenges associated with charging my own EV. Once we explored the underlying industry challenges, we realized that our team was already fully capable of addressing each and every one of them. We set to work to make our vision a reality,” said Doshi, “and the market response has been overwhelming.”

One issue that has plagued the EV charging industry has been the length of time and expertise it takes for a host property to model the business opportunity, design the physical layout and install the charging units.  Universal EV Chargers seeks to make these issues irrelevant by offering a variety of options from complete turnkey installations that essentially require no financial involvement for qualifying host properties to outright purchase options for those who prefer to offer charging as an amenity or revenue enhancement.

A related issue has been actual installation time.  Once the site plan is in place and approved by the local permitting authority, Universal EV Chargers’ units can be installed in about four to six hours, which is a significant time reduction and potential interruption in business operations.

Another issue that the EV charging industry has faced is charger maintenance. Many EV drivers report public chargers that are located at businesses, hospitality and retail locations that are out of service.  Universal EV Chargers has addressed this issue by creating a network of electrical contractors throughout the U.S. that will be alerted by integrated software when a charging unit is out of service.  Contractors will be required to maintain the units assigned to them within 48 hours of notification or face contractual forfeiture.

Universal EV Chargers designs, manufactures and manages its e-mobility products, technology and network, creating the most dependable EV charging solutions available. Universal EV Chargers’ national network of customer service representatives, technicians and electrical contractors provide a turnkey solution for the life of the unit. The company’s most popular option is its all-inclusive offering where Universal EV Chargers maintains and manages the installed devices ensuring maximum up-time and reliability.

The Car Battery Butterfly Effect

0

We know that making the switch to electric vehicles (EVs) is better for the environment – butwhat does this mean in practical terms?

Citroën has investigated what the impact of electric cars will be on the world’s animal andplant population. Could your switch to an EV save an endangered species?

How Do Emissions Affect Animal & Plant Species?

Plants and animals have very specific climate requirements that allow them to live and thrive. While many animals and plants will try to adapt, the effects of climate change will cause theirnatural habitats to disappear or become hostile, making it impossible for them to survive.

Climate change happens as a direct result of CO2 emissions being released into the atmosphere. These emissions cause what is known as the greenhouse effect, which increases the planet’s temperature. This then results in changes such as melting ice caps, warmer seas and acid rain – all of which make animal and plant habitats inhospitable.

Fuelled cars emit large amounts of CO2 every day, and although an individual’s contribution tothat may seem negligible, switching to an EV can contribute in a small way to making animaland plant life more sustainable. If electric transport goes mainstream, however, there could be a huge impact on the wellbeing of endangered species.

Over 60,000 animal & plant species could be saved if 50% of driversswitch to electric

Fuel-based vehicles are responsible for producing billions of CO2 emissions every year. While it might feel as though switching to an electric vehicle would have a minimal impact on the environment, the data shows that even 1% of global vehicles switching to electric would createa significant drop in CO2 emissions – over 50 million metric tons of the stuff.

Such a small transition could also save up to 1,300 endangered animal and plant species. But if 50% of road vehicles around the world switched to electric, that number would jump to over 60,000 species saved from extinction. The CO2 savings would also be very near three billion metric tons.

If all UK vehicles switched to electric, 3,900 animal and plantspecies could be saved

The impact of EVs on the environment is easier to gauge on a global scale, but the data is often more relatable when it’s closer to home.

For example, if every one of the UK’s 39 million road vehicles – accounting for only 3% of theglobal total – switched to electric, CO2 emissions would drop by 171 million metric tons. Almost 4,000 endangered species, such as the Black-legged Kittiwake, could also be saved. In larger countries like the USA, which accounts for one fifth of the world’s road vehicles, a total transition to EVs could save 24,700 endangered species 2.9 billion tons of CO2, while China ups that to over 27,000 species and nearly six billion tons of CO2. The American Manatee and Yangtze Giant Softshell Turtle are just two of the species that could benefit from EVs.

Over 300,000 of the world’s most endangered animals could besaved if 50% of global road vehicles went electric

Thousands of animal species are endangered thanks to pollution and climate change. Byanalysing the IUCN’s Red List, we can see that just half the world’s vehicles switching to electric can save over 300,000 of these endangered species.

As many as 50,000 Malleefowls, large ground-dwelling birds found in Australia, could be protected, along with over 3,000 Speartooth Sharks – in addition to emissions, these riversharks are threatened by mining pollution and commercial fishing. The impact would be felt even among the smallest animal populations, too. For example, the Javan Rhino has a current population of only 18 – nine of these could be saved with a 50% switch to EVs on a global scale.

Nearly 90,000 of the world’s most endangered trees could be savedby EVs

The Red List also covers plants threatened by climate change and emissions. The Mount Panié Kauri, for example, has a seemingly strong population of 100,000, but each of these isendangered. If half of the world’s road vehicles were to go electric, 50,000 could be saved.

The Macadamia Nut tree, so called because of the fruit it produces, would see half of its 600-strong wild population protected. Although many more commercial examples exist, these are grown from the cloning of natural trees. In 2019, it was estimated that nearly three quarters of macadamia nuts worldwide could be traced back to a single treein Australia.

On an even smaller scale, the Rarotongan Coprosma has a current population of 30 – 15 of these trees could be saved with a 50% switch to electric.

We thank Citroen for doing this detailed research.

First Production-Ready Rimac Nevera Takes to the Streets

0

After five years of development and testing, three generations of powertrain technology, 18 prototypes, 45 physical crash tests and more than 1.6 million collective hours of research and development, the very first full production version of the Rimac Nevera has rolled off Rimac’s new production line. Now, hand-building of the Nevera will now continue at a rate of up to 50 units each year, delivered to customers all over the world.

Finished in a striking pearlescent shade of Callisto Green with Painted Graphite Vertex wheels and Sand Alcantara interior, this first car was showcased at last month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in a series of full-throttle sideways runs up the famous Hillclimb. Known as car ‘#000’, and finished with a numbered plaque, it will remain in the possession of Bugatti Rimac as a demonstrator and marketing car.

The first cars destined to be delivered to customers are already being assembled, with each Nevera taking 5 weeks at the final assembly line, while many of its parts and systems are being made months prior at Rimac facilities. They will soon be delivered worldwide through Rimac Automobili’s global network of 25 official dealer partners, which stretches across the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The first year of Nevera production is already sold out, as eager customers hope to experience the world’s first all-electric hypercar.

The Nevera was developed entirely from scratch, with most key systems developed and made in-house by Rimac. To achieve the extremely high-performance targets that the team has set for the Nevera, all major components had to be custom developed. An entirely new generation battery system, inverter, gearbox, motor, control systems, infotainment and many more, were developed specifically for the Nevera. Throughout the development process, the powertrain was redesigned three times, in a process lasting more than two years, with each iteration pushing the envelope of performance further than before.

Its peerless attention to detail and dedication to perfection has already secured Nevera the title of the world’s fastest accelerating production car, alongside being named the Best Hypercar by Robb Report, Hypercar of the Year by GQ and Best Electric Performance Car by Top Gear.

As well as its unrivaled performance, this first production car showcases the variety of customization options available to Nevera customers. There are 36 different pre-defined paint colors and the option to go bespoke, a selection of in-house-designed liveries, three levels of exposed carbon fiber – including a full bare carbon body – and an enormous selection of colorful leathers, Alcantara, contrasting accents and metal finishes for the interior. The promise is that each of the 150 Neveras completed will be totally unique.

In tandem with the development of the car, Rimac has also been developing its aftersales and customer care programs. Specialistic digital diagnostic tools have been built from the ground-up in order to monitor and update the cars throughout their lifetime. Every dealer partner will be given specific training and detailed service and repair information, and a dedicated team has been created Rimac Service Team to be able to travel worldwide to diagnose potential problems. The target is that the experience of owning a Nevera will be just as extraordinary as driving it.

The development and homologation process was an extraordinary journey for the whole team. Starting with initial experimental prototypes, leading on to validation prototypes and then pre-series cars, no fewer than 18 prototype examples of Nevera were painstakingly tested in every conceivable environment and measurable aspect, from the freezing Arctic Circle to a high humidity 48oC climatic chamber. A rigorous four-year crash testing program saw the destruction of nine cars in 45 separate crash tests – all of which the Nevera passed with flying colors to allow customers to experience and own Rimac’s flagship model in all main markets.

Mate Rimac, CEO of the Rimac Group, said: “At the beginning of the Nevera journey, we ran thousands of virtual simulations and experimented with countless designs before eventually, the time came to create the very first working prototypes. At this time, around 300 people were working in the company, and now as we enter full production, our company has grown five-fold to have over 1,500 colleagues and construction is well underway for our new 100.000 m² Rimac Campus.

The Campus will eventually become the site for Nevera production when construction is complete, making it the fourth place where Nevera cars will have been assembled, following earlier production sites for the prototype phases and the current production facility in Zagreb, Croatia. In tandem with developing the car, Rimac has been rapidly expanding as a business, always looking to find more space.

The Nevera was developed with the intention to become the cutting-edge electric hypercar it is today, ready to thrill drivers and passengers in a way they have never experienced before. I’m very much looking forward to customers taking delivery of their brand-new, highly customized cars and hearing their stories of fun behind the wheel.”

The Rimac Nevera unlocks the next generation of automotive performance. Its 1,914hp is produced by four electric motors, which propels the hypercar from 0-60 mph in just 1.85 seconds, and to 100mph in 4.3 seconds. Proudly sporting a name in honor of its homeland, a nevera is an unexpected Mediterranean summer storm off the coast of Croatia. As such, the Nevera can transform from a comfortable, adept grand tourer into a pin-sharp performance machine in the blink of an eye.

BEVs based on E-GMP can provide range over 500km on a full charge (WLTP) and be charged up to 80% within 18 minutes through high-speed charging

0

The E-GMP – the Electric Global Modular Platform – opens up a new era for Hyundai Motor Group, pioneering the development of electric vehicles (EV). This dedicated platform is made especially for EVs. It comprises the chassis of the vehicle including the battery, motor and power electric system, and its scalable wheelbase allows it to form the backbone of many different types of vehicle.
It transforms how EVs deliver performance, making sure that the driving experience meets your lifestyle needs. Simply put: the E-GMP offers many more reasons to switch to electric vehicles.

None of us like waiting, and recharging EVs used to be a time-consuming activity. Well, with the rapid charging of the E-GMP, in just 18 minutes, you are fully charged. Its 800V charging capability enables super-fast charging. In just five minutes the battery can charge enough for a range of 100km, which could be a quick solution to get you back on your way again. And since you can charge with either a 400V or 800V charger without having to adjust anything manually, you can visit any charging station nearby.

Next-Level Safety

Clean mobility has always been a solution for a greener world, but EVs are just as safe for the passengers inside as they are for the environment. The E-GMP has safety built right into its core, with an ultra-high-strength steel frame, maximizing the safety of everyone inside. The construction maintains a low center of gravity, meaning better stability on the road, and in the case of a collision, the 8-point battery mounting absorbs impact to prevent deformation of the cabin area and keep everyone inside secure.

Plug-In and Play

For decades we have used cars to just get from A to B, but now we can do so much more. Now it is possible to power external devices with the electricity stored in an EV battery. Turning your car into a portable power bank, you can charge your phone or laptop, or take any household appliance on the road with you. Create that outdoor cinema you’ve always dreamed of on your next camping trip or simply take your office on the road – the options are endless. IONIQ 5 will be even equipped with Vehicle To Load (V2L) functionality, and will be continuously expanded to bring true connectivity to Hyundai Motor Company’s lineup.

Multi (800V and 400V) and Bi-Directional Charging System

Most existing EVs and the fast-charging infrastructure provide 50kW~150kW charging for EVs equipped with a 400V system; however, the development of 800V infrastructure, with up to 350kW charging, will gradually enable even more fast-charging.

In line with this trend, Hyundai Motor Group has invested in IONITY, Europe’s leading high-power charging network, as a strategic partner and shareholder. IONITY operates 298 high-power charging (HPC) stations – using a charging capacity of up to 350 kW – along highways in European countries. The company plans to increase this number to 400 HPC stations by 2022, including 53 currently under construction.

E-GMP offers 800V charging capability as standard and enables 400V charging, without the need for additional components or adapters. The multi-charging system is a world’s first patented technology which operates the motor and the inverter to boost 400V to 800V for stable charging compatibility.

A BEV based on E-GMP is capable of a maximum range of over 500km with a fully charged battery, according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light-duty vehicle Procedure (WLTP). Moreover, it can high-speed charge up to 80 percent in just 18 minutes and can add up to 100km of driving range in just five minutes.

Unlike previous BEVs, which only accept one-way charging, the E-GMP’s charging system is more flexible. The E-GMP’s newly developed Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) represents an upgrade from existing On-Board Chargers (OBC), which typically only allow electricity to flow in a single direction from an external power source. The ICCU enables a new vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, which can additionally discharge energy from the vehicle battery without additional components. This enables BEV based on the E-GMP to operate other electric machinery (110 / 220V) anywhere. The system can even be used to charge another EV.

The new V2L function can supply up to 3.5kW of power and operate a mid-sized air conditioner unit and a 55-inch television for up to 24 hours.

E-GMP to underpin future EV sales growth worldwide

Hyundai Motor Group has put in considerable effort to prepare for the era of electrification. Kia Motors Corporation launched its first mass-produced BEV in 2011, the Ray EV, in Korea, with the Soul EV sold in global markets from 2014. The Group completed the introduction of a mass production system for all electrified vehicles in 2015, including those with HEV, PHEV, BEV, and FCEV.

The E-GMP will underpin Hyundai Motor Group’s plans to introduce a total of 23 BEV models including 11 dedicated BEV models, and sell more than 1 million BEVs worldwide by 2025. As part of its BEV vision, Hyundai Motor Company launched its dedicated ‘IONIQ’ BEV brand in August 2020, which includes three dedicated BEV models, the IONIQ 5,6 and 7 by 2024. This currently covers various vehicle segments.

Advanced driver assistance systems ensure high levels of safety

IONIQ 6 is equipped with the next level of Hyundai SmartSense, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, ensuring safety and convenience on the road.

Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) helps to maintain a set distance and speed from the vehicle ahead when driving on a highway and helps to center the vehicle in the lane while driving, even though a curve. In case the vehicle on the side is driving very close, it assists to adjust the vehicle’s path, not to be in danger. If driving above a certain speed, holding the steering wheel, and operating the turn signal switch automatically changes the lane in the indicated direction.

Smart Cruise Control (SCC) helps to maintain distance from the vehicle ahead and drive at a speed set by the driver by reflecting the learned driving style of the driver. When SCC is inactive, the function learns the driver’s driving style. When SCC is activated, the function stops learning and drives automatically by mimicking the learned driving style.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) helps to avoid collisions with objects in front of the vehicle while driving. If a preceding vehicle suddenly slows, or if a forward-collision risk is detected, such as a stopped vehicle or a pedestrian, it provides a warning. After the warning, if the risk of collision remains, it can assist with emergency braking. While driving, if there is a risk of collision with a cyclist ahead, or with an oncoming vehicle while turning at an intersection, it can help assist with emergency braking.

The SEL and Limited trims includes enhanced functions of Junction Crossing, Lane-Changing Oncoming and Lane-Changing Side along with Evasive Steering Assist. While driving through an intersection if there is a risk of collision with oncoming vehicles from the left or right, it automatically assists with emergency braking. When changing lanes while driving, if there is a risk of collision with an oncoming vehicle in the next lane or a preceding vehicle in the next lane, it automatically assists with avoidance steering. And while driving, if there is a risk of collision with a pedestrian, partially in the vehicle’s intended path, it automatically assists with avoidance steering.

Other semi-autonomous driving features include Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), which adjusts vehicle speed to match the speed limit, and High Beam Assist (HBA), which can help switch high beam lights on and off at night for approaching vehicles in the opposite oncoming lane.

IONIQ 6 has several driver attention-related functions. Driver Attention Warning (DAW) analyzes the driver’s attention while driving and warns when necessary. It provides a warning when signs of driver inattentiveness are detected, and recommends a rest if needed. During a stop, the driver is alerted if the leading vehicle departs.

Several functions work in tandem to help avoid collisions in a variety of driving situations. Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) helps avoid collisions at the rear side of the vehicle when changing lanes. When operating the turn signal to change lanes, if there is a risk of collision detected with a rear-side vehicle, it can provide a warning. If exiting a parallel parking spot and there is a risk of collision detected with a rear-side vehicle, it can assist with emergency braking.

Another function, Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), displays video of the blind-spot view for a safe lane change. When operating the turn signal switch, it displays video of the blind-spot view for the direction indicated.

IONIQ 6 also assures the safety of backseat passengers with Safe Exit Warning (SEW), which provides a warning when a vehicle is approaching from the rear-side while getting out of the vehicle. When the occupant opens the door to exit the vehicle after a stop, if an approaching vehicle from the rear side is detected, it provides a warning.

A variety of Parking Convenience features make parking in a variety of circumstances easier than before. Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2) helps remotely park by Remote Parking or it helps remotely exit a parking spot from outside the vehicle by Remote Operation. This feature works for parallel, perpendicular, and even diagonal parking.

Surround View Monitor (SVM) displays video of the situation around the vehicle for safe parking.  Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA) helps avoid collisions with pedestrians and objects around the vehicle while parking or exiting. If there is a risk of collision with pedestrians or objects while parking and exiting, it provides a warning. After the warning, if the risk of collision increases, it automatically assists with emergency braking.

Similarly, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) helps avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles on the left or right side of the vehicle while reversing. If there is a risk of collision with an oncoming vehicle on the left or right side while reversing, it provides a warning. After the warning, if the risk of collision increases, it automatically assists with emergency braking.

OTA Software Update

IONIQ 6 is Hyundai brand’s first model to offer the Over-the-Air (OTA) Software Update feature for various controllers. This technology allows drivers to upgrade the vehicle’s controllers for electric devices, autonomous driving, battery, and more, to provide a safer and more convenient driving experience. Drivers can also update maps and media software with the OTA function.
